Capclave's restaurant guide strongly recommended a place it called "Joe's Noodle House", a few blocks away. The Chinese name of the restaurant looks like it's a place name and "Small Plates", which do constitute a big part of the menu. I didn't have my McCawley with me so I wasn't sure if the thing I was ordering off the specials menu was going to be Chinese Broccoli or Pea Pod Stems, but it turned out to be the best Chinese broccoli I've ever had, and the beef with shredded bamboo shoots was also excellent. I was in a small group so didn't get to try any of the rest of the menu, but I'll definitely be going back.

BEST. PLACE. EVAH!

If you ever go back, get in touch with me, cause we LOVE going, and always want to find other adults to dine with, so that we can try a bigger variety of things.

I love their peanuts, and, well, pretty much everything else I've had there.

Thanks for the pointer. We'll be in Gaithersburg next month and this isn't too far away.

ooh! pointer to the existence of McCawley greatly appreciated.
Have you used it on the specials list at Wang's?
I want to know what secret things I haven't ordered yet. (I'm still bitter
about going to pick up my food and learning that I've been failing to ask
what the special dumplings of the week are when we call to order, and thus missed out on pork and fennel dumpings. Although maybe it's not too late...)

If you get enough of them, you can have them make you a batch of any kind of dumplings you want.

I got to try the pork and fennel dumplings this weekend and didn't really enjoy them all that much.

Joe's Noodle House was very good; about on the same level as the best of the "real chinese food" Szechuan resturants in NYC (which means some dishes were better, some worse, but that's to be expected -- and it was all both very good and was clearly authentic). We shared a table with three Chinese diners, who ordered beef tendon in hot oil (which is wonderful, but I wasn't sure the other couple we were eating it would, um, stomach it) and a spicy beef stomach (which looked very nice, but which I've not generally tried. probably should; it looked yummy).
