a meme comes around on the guitar
Feb. 7th, 2007 03:35 pmSince the last time this meme came around, I've visited a couple of new states.
I'd flown through MSP before and not counted it (likewise, I don't count Peru in my countries list), but this May,
roozle and I had a three-hour layover there, so we hopped on the T (even the logo is the same) to the Mall of America, rode the rollercoaster, and had lunch at a little crepe stand before heading back to the airport to catch our connecting flight. I figure this counts as having visited the state.
With that, there are no longer any states I've been through without visiting at least a little. But there are quite a few I haven't slept in.

Date: 2007-02-08 02:18 am (UTC)Even though I've slept in MN (our connecting flight never arrived due to bad weather) I haven't counted it yet since it doesn't feel like I've been there: one Holiday Inn is much like another.
Then again, at said Holiday Inn I did get to experience an all-the-cholesterol-you-can-eat breakfast buffet (with token canned fruit in syrup, yogurt, and granola hidden in one corner for the health-conscious). We were served beverages by a poker-faced matron who sternly explained to me (after bringing me the coffee I'd asked for) that I could have either coffee OR orange juice with the buffet, not both. I was disappointed but didn't make a fuss. A little while later she silently and still unsmilingly brought me a glass of OJ at no extra charge. I got the impression that my quiet "thank you" may have been considered too effusive.
So maybe I have been to Minnesota.

Date: 2011-03-01 09:53 pm (UTC)If I take a strict definition and only count the states I've covered some ground in while awake and able to see the countryside at least, I think I lose a state. If all of the above PLUS at least a stop to walk around, then it's only 43.

Date: 2011-03-01 10:18 pm (UTC)For visiting, in my particular case there's no state I've taken a train through that I haven't also at least driven through. I'm not sure if I'd count it if there were.
