snow tires

Got the snow tires on the Civic today, since we had a nice day and probably won't have another before, oh, March. Slightly annoying to do in the dark, but that always seems to be how I do it. At least I wasn't also doing it in the snow. This seems late in the season for it, but I haven't been keeping track of this kind of thing for long enough to know for sure. There hasn't been enough snow yet for it to have been a problem, at any rate.

Turns out the RF summer (actually all-season) tire had a leak in the inside sidewall and was mostly flat. So that's in the trunk waiting for me to get it replaced. If you hear of anyone having a sale on Pirelli P400s, let me know.

The last time I bought P400s in 175/70R13, they were $60 each (including mounting/balancing/disposal/whatall) from Maynard & Lesieur. It wasn't a sale per se, but it was cheaper than mail order, all said, and post-sales service from them has been excellent. I buy my Nokians there, too. (Some of their lines are pricier, certainly, but they're a regional tire distributor as well as doing direct servicing, and I think they move a lot of brands P and N.)

At some point I am going to give up on the somewhat nutty idea of running Toyo Observe G-02s in the back in the wintertime. Maybe I'll have a good excuse, like putting a hole in one of the Toyos. Maybe I'll have a crummy excuse, like wanting studs, or a crazy insane winter rally coming up and wanting my rear quarter panels to stay intact. Or maybe that last one is a good excuse anyway. Good to know that they're a good place for Nokians as well as Pirellis.

(I wound up paying the convenience tax and had it done in town)

I actually put mine on early this year. As it happens I got new snows last year (Michelin Alpines) and I've been very pleased with them.
