A while ago I got a phone bill with a 415 number with the town listed as "Sfrmrsvrgd". OK, that's probably San Francisco, which means it's probably real, but what the hell is up with that notation?

So today I thought to look the number up in a reverse telephone directory. I can now report that "Sfrmrsvrgd" is officially an abbrevation for "Snfc Mt-Ev". Isn't that totally obvious?

I can't even figure out what "Mt Ev..." is supposed to be, and I feel like I know SF fairly well.
