Today's XKCD is a challenge to name a movie that:
  • You genuinely like
  • Came out after 2000
  • Scores under 50% on Rotten Tomatoes
The challenge for me is the "After 2000" part. So many movies in the late 90s (or in 2000 itself) fit the rest of the bill. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas! Orgazmo! The Perfect Storm! Alien 3! Robin Hood Men In Tights! But I'm A Cheerleader! Tank Girl! I think that leaves K-Pax (2001), at 41%.

Best theory I've heard, via a friend: female-gaze fantasy fulfillment doesn't score well when reviewers, both formal and informal, are mostly cis men.

That is one of my favourite films of all time. My inner 13 year old fangirl LOVES that movie. It does everything I need in a summer flick, and some unexpected joys besides (e.g. recognizes that women who house clean for a living are fit as hell).

I see so few movies that I don't know of anything I can add to my list. I haven't even seen any of the ones I've seen listed so far. Maybe I should find more people who really like showing me movies.

V chimes in with what might be the winner: Hot Pursuit, at 7%.

The Happytime Murders

Not for everyone but we enjoyed it and were laughing all the way through.

I was wondering about why the date limitation until I read the XKCD instance. Now, I wonder about whether the particular date is an absolute rather than subjective (due to how people change in the way that we perceive things) one and why.

I'd go for 'Viral', 2016 [54% reviewers ... but there are only 13 reviews!// 29% from 500+ audience scores] - IMO the 54% from 13 reviewers shouldn't disqualify it from infamy.
