the calm before the storm

This is my favorite part of a convention. A dozen or two folks setting up the infrastructure the morning of the day before, so that 150 more people can set up that night for the thousands of people who will arrive the next day.

it feels like the miniscule pause at the top of a laborious ascent up a steep slide, one deep breath, no more time to think about it, nowhere to turn around, and then gravity will take over and whoosh! in mere moments it will all be over.
