no phone

The touch screen on my phone is dead. The only thing I can do with it in this state is take incoming voice calls on my bluetooth headset. But the headset's battery life is not infinite and the charger is at work, so really I can only even take calls if I know the call is coming so I can have the headset turned on, paired, and ready to push the "answer" button.

No outgoing calls, no checking voicemail, no texting in either direction.

Hoping to get this resolved soon, but it won't be before tomorrow.

ETA: fixed! Hooray.

If you need a replacement, let me know who your service provider is and what your minimum requirements are for a phone. We have a crapload abandoned in the lost & found at work waiting for new homes...

Thanks for the offer! One option might have been wait two weeks to be eligible for a subsidized Droid 2 or the like, in which case I'd definitely have wanted to take you up on it. But it turned out not to be necessary.

Ugh! That sounds like a nightmare. I'm so sorry you're going through that.

What did you do for a fix?

I went in to the Verizon store in Harvard Square and they gave me a warranty replacement (which appears to be a new phone, not even a refurb). They also extended my warranty (on the replacement, now) by 90 days as it was about to expire.

Almost all my apps and data magically moved over (some by living on the cloud, and some because we swapped over the SD card as well as the SIM). The exception is the text messages -- but I don't think there was anything in there that I couldn't recreate.

Did you buy the previous phone from the Verizon store?

I'm slowly developing the theory that while you can get cheaper prices online, if you buy from the carrier's store, warranty replacement is a lot easier at stores.

I did buy it from a Verizon store, but not this particular Verizon store.
