this?

Being clear, I'm looking for the name of the thing at the center of the image.

Okay, I had to do some research for this. But I'm guessing it's the Delta Mariner, which carries Boeing rocket parts on the Tennessee River.

Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] saxikath! So far, [livejournal.com profile] shayde, [livejournal.com profile] iamlisabee, [livejournal.com profile] cgull_, and [livejournal.com profile] rmd have also answered correctly.

So, how did you figure this one out? I tried really hard, but beyond the adjacent HexCel facility providing carbon fiber to Marshall, I got nowhere.

The path I was hoping people would follow is to zoom out, see that you're in decatur, find the city of decatur's website (http://www.digitaldecatur.com), and notice that a good photo of rockets being loaded onto a correctly-shaped ship is one of the (fairly large number of) images in the rotating flash animation at the top of that page.

Yeah, I just went there and sat through 18 images, including two repeats, none of which were of a rocket. OK, thanks.

You're right that this path introduces a lot of randomness, and there are more images than I originally realized when I designed the puzzle. Other paths include an oblique reference to rocket shipping in the wikipedia article about Decatur, or this flickr image (http://www.flickr.com/photos/toufan/430987420/) which is currently the number 26 hit on google images for "decatur, AL ship".

... oh. i didn't think to go to decatur's website. i just did a bunch of research for large industry there, and then figured "it's palmwiz -- high probability of space related stuff" and narrowed it down from there. and then found something about the environmental impact of it or something like that and figured it out from there.

I just searched on the name of the town and ship.

I also came up with HexCell, but I didn't make the connection.

Hey, we never got the answer to the Nov 20th puzzler....!

You're right!

It's the coordinates in Real Genius. And the followup is the coordinates in the screenplay, which isn't quite what was actually shot on film. [livejournal.com profile] deguspice did come up with the answer in chat, but really that one was too hard.
