I've been using the timestamp of the 50th thread in my inbox as a figure of merit for how much is on my plate: the more recent it is, the more is going on. The first 50 threads tend to be things I haven't looked at; the second 50 threads in the box are generally dealt with or at least transcribed to the to-do list; and the 50 after that are really only of historical interest.
For most of the last week, the top 50 threads have been spanning a time of about 24 hours.
Right now thread number 50 has a timestamp of 7:00 this morning.
I guess I have some cleanup to do.

Date: 2008-01-10 07:54 pm (UTC)I found this amusing, since one of my more recent Big Push Projects to Become More Efficient/Focused has been to get all email boxen (personal and work) down to small enough that I can see the entire list on my itty bitty iBookG4 screen. For yahoo, that translates into around 13 emails max. For googlemail, that translates into 21.
Meaning, that I can only have that many emails in each mailbox that haven't been dealt with in some way. If they need to wait for something, then I put them in a folder that I check every so often.
I gotta say, it feels like I've accomplished something pretty awesome. Then again, I'm not doing Arisia stuff. You have my admiration for juggling so many things.
