So far, everyone who has answered my puzzle has linked to the Wikipedia article about the object in question. Interesting how quickly that has become the canonical reference.
When are you going to tell us what it is? :) (I have no hope of ever answering. The most I could do was zoom out as far as possible to find out what continent it's on.)
Huh. I think it would be interesting for people to post how they got their answer as well, since I asked google what it knew about what I thought were two obvious words that distinguished the place in question, and got the correct answer almost instantly. (I did have some vague knowledge of the place, but it wasn't required. Would be happy to mention my search terms once the answer is up.) So, to me this one was trivial, but some of the others people post are just astonishingly opaque.
So the object in question is the جامع الفناء (http://ar.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D8%AC%D8%A7%D9%85%D8%B9_%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%81%D9%86%D8%A7) or Djemaa el Fna (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Djemaa_el_Fna). So far everyone has linked to it in English.
It took a lot of time to find it, and I wasn't sure if it was just the square or some significant object/place/activity within it, so I kind of gave up. I didn't know anything about it and had never heard of it before.
The wikimapia annotation doesn't directly help (but the adjacent hotel does), but it an amusing snark.
