Anyone been to the Cracker Barrel in Tewksbury? What's it like? The end location I'd been thinking of for Essex is booked and I'm thinking of moving it there. Scott Beliveau's South of the Border rally ended there, but as there were only 4 cars and we all pretty much got there at once we did the finish in the parking lot instead of going inside to eat.

Well, since I live in the neighborhood...

It's reasonably OK southern-style cooking... definitely not for the diet-conscious. Slightly kitschy, too. And crazy busy on the weekends.

and... I think they've changed their policy, but they got a lot of bad press a few years ago for firing anyone who "came out" as gay or lesbian (this was in their Southern locations). Still makes me cringe, which is yet another reason I won't eat there.

Why not try Vic's Waffle House on Rt. 38 (one exit from Cracker Barrel)?

oh, that explains the presence of this (http://www.crackerbarrel.com/about-outreach.cfm?doc_id=912) as a link from their top-level page.

Slow. Filling. I've been told they make a pretty decent chicken fried steak.

I've eaten there once -- the sausage gravy and biscuits was pretty nasty, but it was my fault for ordering it.

Another nearby possibility is the 99 Restaurant a half mile or so down 133 toward Andover. However, it's mostly booths as opposed to tables, and a restaurant visible from the highway is a convenient place to have an end location.
