Did you see any of the articles about Michael Phelps's diet when he was competing at the Olympics? He was consuming 12,000 calories a day. That's about 10,000 more than the typical diet listed in the RDA panels.
9-12k calories is typical for cyclists doing stage races, which involve perhaps 200km at 20-25 mph. So it surprises me that Phelps would do that when he was doing events no more than 7 minutes apiece. Ah, that's his *training* diet; he was probably eating a lot less at competitions.
I had a big plan to bike *from* That Ice Cream Party up to Montreal, where there is a Worldcon planning meeting the following weekend. But now I have this job thing, and I'm also not feeling the lack of quality biking time right now.
In the sense of "how fast do you have to run from the bear", I think he only has to hide behind...me. (Yes, I'm the same order of skinny as palmwiz...)
I've taken to assigning "mile equivalents" to calorie counts. Knowing that a jelly donut is equivalent to three miles of running is enough to make me think twice about eating it...
