Rose's post starts out by saying we're not a community, but then goes on to basically conclude that conventions, and SF fandom, are in fact communities and that that is why we should care. The final words of the post are "We may not be a formal incorporated community, but we are a community and I’m proud to be a part of it." I think what she means is that SF conventions are not and should not try to be government, which is a very different thing. Communities have standards, or looked at differently qualifications for entry. This is a good thing and it is time for us to come up with some and start applying them.
